RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

Ocean Wise™ | Cactus Club Cafe

Ocean Wise™

Ocean Wise™ is a highly acclaimed seafood conservation program that is supported by the Vancouver Aquarium. This program makes it easy for consumers to choose sustainable seafood aimed at ensuring the long term health of our oceans.  It is predicted by the year 2100, a number of populations of salmon will be extinct or close to extinct if the oceans are continually fished at the rate they currently are. At Cactus Club Cafe we source premium Ocean Wise™ selections to ensure our guests can enjoy environmentally friendly fish and shellfish year round. We feel this is a definite step in the right direction to help sustain our world’s fish populations, and the health of our oceans.

Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef

The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) is a multi-stakeholder community devoted to advancing sustainability in the Canadian beef industry. It is comprised of multiple organizations, including farmer/rancher associations, academic institutions, food and agriculture businesses, animal care and environmental organizations, foodservice companies, government and individual observers. Our menu has featured Certified Angus Beef® from Canadian ranchers for many years and we joined the CRSB to support our commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability in the Canadian beef industry.

Raised by a Canadian Farmer Cactus Club Cafe

Raised By a Canadian Farmer

The Raised By a Canadian Farmer program is a strict, mandatory and auditable Animal Care Program that ensures high animal care standards are being upheld on Canadian chicken farms across Canada. It is founded on codes developed by the National Farm Animal Care Council, a world leader in bringing together stakeholders with different perspectives – farmers, veterinarians, processors, transporters, animal welfare associations, and provincial/ federal governments. Cactus Club proudly supports Canadian farmers and we buy 100% Canadian chicken.

Biodegradable Products Cactus Club Cafe

Biodegradable Products Institute

In 2018 we made a commitment to reduce our straw usage. Since that time, we have removed straws from the majority of drinks on our menu and are proud to source 100% plant-based compostable straws that are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute. These straws are served only with beverages that absolutely require a straw, or upon guest request.

National Farm Animal Care Council Cactus Club Cafe

National Farm Animal Care Council

In 2019 Cactus Club Cafe became a member of the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), a uniquely Canadian organization of diverse partners including animal agriculture industry groups, animal welfare advocates, governments, scientists, veterinarians and the food industry.

NFACC brings together animal welfare groups, enforcement, government and farmers under a collective decision-making model for advancing farm animal welfare.

The Green Table Network

The Green Table Network is a conservation initiative that is based on a set of operating standards and targets that define a “green restaurant.” These guidelines cover five basic areas such as solid waste, water conservation, energy conservation, pollution prevention and purchasing. February 1st , 2008 marked the momentous occasion whereby the Park Royal Cactus Club Cafe became the first certified “green casual fine dining restaurant” in BC. As one of the 12 founding members, we are very proud to be the only multi-unit certified “green restaurant concept” in BC where we are actively reducing our environmental footprint. By purchasing produce from local suppliers, implementing recycling and composting programs and performing simple energy conservation practices, we are committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate.
